Description

Goms, the landscape park of Binntal, the Formazza Valley (Pomatt), and the village of Bosco Gurin are areas that have been connected to the history of the Walser people for centuries. They also represent a unique natural treasure in the Alpine region. The "Walser Trekking": an opportunity to discover the Goms region in Upper Valais and follow the ancient Walser trail for three days. Starting from Binn, the trekking traverses the landscape parks of Binntal and Alpe Devero, touches the Walser villages in the Formazza Valley, and eventually reaches the municipality of Bosco Gurin.

Travel Itinerary

Day One: From Ticino to the Binntal Valleys Early in the morning, depart by bus from Ticino, crossing the Nufenen Pass into the Valais region. Stop in the historic village of Ernen for a visit. Then, continue to Binn, located in the regional park. Embark on an excursion accompanied by a local guide to the Twingi Waterfall. Lunch to discover local specialties. Return to Ausserbinn, dinner, and overnight stay.

Day Two: Over Albrun Pass to Lake Devero After a hearty breakfast and a short bus transfer, our trek begins: first, we traverse the Binntal Landscape Park, cross over Albrun Pass, and then descend to Crampiolo, a village near Lake Devero. Overnight at the Punta Fizzi inn with a typical dinner. (5 hours of hiking, 16 km, 1,000 m ascent / 750 m descent).

Day Three: Through Mountains and Valleys to the Formazza Valley A day of hiking through the Alpe Veglia and Devero National Park towards the Formazza Valley. An opportunity to explore a route where human traces alternate with spectacular panoramas and spots of untouched nature. After crossing the Muretto Pass (2,347 m), arrive in Salecchio, a true gem of Walser architecture. Descend into the Formazza Valley, dinner, and overnight stay at the Hotel Edelweiss in Ponte (Zumstรคg), which was the Walser community's seat until 1837. (6 hours of hiking, 20 km, 981 m ascent / 1,497 m descent).

Day Four: Ascent to Guriner Furguu and Return to Locarno The day begins at the "Casa Forte," which houses the interesting valley museum. Starting from Ponte, enjoy panoramic views of the Formazza Valley and the Toce Waterfall. In the early afternoon, return to Switzerland by crossing the Guriner Furguu Pass (2,323 m) and descending to Bosco Gurin, a beautiful village nestled in the Valle di Bosco, in the Vallemaggia district. (4 hours of hiking, 10 km, 1,173 m ascent / 509 m descent).
