Elisarion Pavillon Museum

Description

The Elisarion Pavilion houses the painting "The Clear World of the Blessed," which was painted by the Estonian nobleman Elisàr von Kupffer between 1919 and 1929. Originally, the work was exhibited in Minusio at the Sanctuarium Artis Elisarion, which was opened in 1927 at the request of the artist and friend Eduard von Mayer. In 1978, the painting was brought to Monte Verità by Harald Szeemann and, after an elaborate restoration, is now part of the Monte Verità museum complex. The arrangement of the Elisarion Pavilion with its reconstructed canopy provides a vivid impression of this unique artwork. "The Clear World of the Blessed" consists of 16 canvases and depicts 84 male nudes in 33 scenes. In a historical accompanying exhibition curated by Andreas Schwab, Elisàr von Kupffer and Eduard von Mayer are introduced, who together founded "Clarism" as a new religion.
